Discussion Board

If you decided to do the discussion board on the tic-tac-toe proportionality please use the following.  You will comment on this post.
Tell what you have learned about proportionality by responding to this discussion.
1.) You must state something about proportionality that no one else has yet.
2.) Then you must come up with a question about proportionality that you are unsure about.
3.) The last thing you must do is answer someone else's question.

Fantasy Football

We will be competing in teams in the class in fantasy football.  Please fill this form as a group.....only one form per a group needs to be submitted.  I will be sharing with you the points form that will be filled out weekly.

New School Year 2013-2014

It is almost time for school to start and I am looking forward to a great year at Boyd Middle School.  This will be a location where students work can be seen and events going on in class will be listed.  I will be getting help from students to keep this blog up and running.

The 1st semester is coming to an end and second semester is about to begin.  I am currently working on putting together the 8th grade geometry quilt.  Right now in 8th grade we are beginning to learn the Pythagorean theorem and in 6th grade we are learning all about angles and shapes!  Spring will be busy for us in math class!

Orders of Operation

 
In 8th grade math we just reviewed PEMDAS or as we now call it now GEMDAS! The students drew a number and had to come up with their own mathematical expression working backwards. Here are some of the end results that are now hanging in the room!

Proportionality Tic-Tac-Toe

In 7th grade math we are about to learn about proportionality.  We will be covering the characteristics that make something proportional and viewing different examples of proportional and non-proportional.  Here is what we will be going when we get to the end of the unit:


Tic-Tac-Toe Proportionality
You must complete the Center square
You can choose two other options, but you must make a 3 in a row tic-tac-toe.
You may work with 1 partner on the poster.

Comic 1 or 2
Poster
Discussion Board


Poster
The poster must include the 3 criteria for a proportional situation.
You can represent the criteria in any way.
If you use numbers, you can use any numbers.
You can make the poster, using any format (electronic, by hand).
The poster does not need to be on a poster board.

KWL
Click on the link.
A form will open.
Answer each part of the form.
Follow the directions. You must write at least two sentences. Grammar, format, and spelling will be graded.
Once you are satisfied with your responses, click submit.
You can only submit once.


Word Cloud
You must create a word cloud using at least 15 words that are associated with proportions.
Click on the link to begin the word cloud.
Follow the directions to create your wordle. You can type in the words you want to use.
The more times you type a word, the bigger the word will be.
You can choose between many different formats.
To make a two word phrase, put ~ between the words (Shift and key by the 1 under escape).
Print the wordle.
If you want to save a copy for later, Print screen (3rd button from the end of the first row on keyboard) and paste in Word.

Postcard
Click on the link
Follow the directions to make your postcard.
Address the postcard to either Mr. McDonald, Mr. West, Mrs. Wilson, or Ms. Stice 550 Knox Ave
In the message section, include why it is important to understand proportions.
You must write at least two sentences. Grammar, format, and spelling will be graded.
You will include an illustration on the other side of the postcard after you print it.
On your postcard, you will need to include a description about your illustration, so have in mind what you will draw.
After you have completed the postcard, print the card.
Draw your illustration.

Comic
Click on one of the two links.
Follow the directions to make your comic.
Your comic needs to illustrate at least one criteria of a proportional situation.
Grammar, format, and spelling will be graded.
Once you are satisfied with your comic, click print.

Discussion Post
On the blog page you will comment on the Proportional Discussion Post
Create your response based on requirements:

Word Problem
Click on the link.
A form will open.
Write your word problem.
Follow the directions. You must write at least two sentences. Grammar, format, and spelling will be graded.
Enter your answer in the space provided.
Once you are satisfied with your problem and answer, click submit.
You can only submit once.

Graphing
Click on the link.
Select which type of graph you will create.
The graph must represent a proportional relationship.
Remember to include a title and labels when necessary.
Once you are satisfied with your graph, click print/save.  You may print out or email the graph to me: mwilson@boydisd.net

Compare/Contrast
Click on the link.
You will create a Venn Diagram that compares/contrasts proportional vs non-proportional situations.
Follow the directions.
You are limited to the number of letters you can include.
You can include more information in the Description box.
Once you are satisfied with your graph, click print.
